Emerres Una® – Emergency contraception available
from Pharmacies

  • Emerres Una® is an emergency contraceptive pill which contains 1.5 mg levonorgestrel1,2
  • Available for patients to purchase from their local pharmacy following a pharmacist consultation2
  • Emerres Una® contains the same active ingredients and has demonstrated bioequivalence to Levonelle 1500®1—4
  • Each pack of Emerres Una® contains a single tablet of emergency contraception5
Clinical studies indicate that Emerres Una® may prevent 84–85% of expected pregnancies if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse.2

  • Emerres Una® emergency contraception should be offered after sexual intercourse if:
    • No form of contraception was used2,6
    • Regular hormonal contraception has been compromised or used incorrectly6
    • Barrier method failed6
  • NICE guideline states emergency contraception should be considered if a woman does not wish to conceive and has had unprotected sexual intercourse:6
    • On any day of a natural menstrual cycle
    • After regular hormonal contraception has been compromised or used incorrectly
    • From Day 21 after childbirth, unless all the lactational amenorrhea method (LAM) criteria are met
    • From Day 5 after miscarriage, abortion, ectopic pregnancy, or uterine evacuation for gestational trophoblastic disease
  • If vomiting occurs within 3 hours of taking the tablet, another tablet should be taken immediately2
  • After using emergency contraception it is recommended that patients use a local barrier method (e.g. condom, diaphragm, spermicide or cervical cap) until the next menstrual period starts2
  • The use of Emerres Una® does not contraindicate the continuation of regular hormonal contraception2
